Beginning Wednesday, a free Rowan University online theatre production celebrates and mixes 1980s songs and local, national TV news broadcasts and topical issues to correlate with 2020 experiences.
Undeterred by the coronavirus pandemic, Gloucester County's Rowan University students produced ‘Breaking News," a virtual cabaret show.
Rowan University College of Performing Arts’ student-produced show will be aired for free online viewing through Sunday, Dec. 20, according to NJ Advance Media.
The production mixes 1980s songs and local, national TV news broadcasts and topical issues to correlate with 2020 experiences.
The show’s website says: "Our sitcom-sized bite of devised deliciousness is a first for us. In 2020 we rehearse on Zoom, record music on Garage Band, videotape on iPhones and laptops, as well as television and film cameras. . . We are adjusting to the circumstances of our new decade, all while practicing physical distancing, podding, and wearing masks when necessary. We even lip-sync like Milli Vanilli."
“Breaking News” is directed by Christopher Marlowe Roche with choreography by Leslie Elkins and musical direction by Jess Arnold. Explicit language is used in the production so viewer discretion is advised.
